Colorblind

Love is MY religion...but what do YOU see?

I see sincerity, compassion; kindness...looks come last...and hair second to last...

But when you read a description of a crime committed what do you visualize?

When you are on the phone and then meet someone in person, did your impression drastically change?

Would you worry if your daughter or son dated someone of a different religion, race or ethnicity?

Same question if she/he wanted to marry the man/woman?

My dad says as long as the man is a good man it doesn't matter, but not all parents are that open.

I have friends who have chimed in on the debate of color over the years: One white female friend said, “Please let me have a mixed child, it will be beautiful.”  Another white Christian friend said, “My father doesn't want me to date a black guy, my family worries about how socially we will survive.  My grandmother thinks the children will be made fun of...”  Another friend once said, “I just wouldn't tell my parents you are half black...” Another friend said, “Are your parents white, because you sure do have a lot?” and another friend asked, “Is your family Saudi Arabian, because your house is so big?”

Once over lunch with a friend, I explained to him my bitchy roommates and hopefully with the election of Obama things will start to change, people will be more open and accepting...

He replied (in either truth or charm, I do not know) how his family friend is Jewish and adopted an African American boy who is best friends with his little brother and its great...I agreed, loving that adoption was not something taboo to his social circle...he also made a strange comment, that he made the CHOICE long ago when his sister had a black friend...She and this friend had variations of the same name and their fathers were both intellectuals and of the same caliber...so he decided from then on that he wouldn't see a difference solely base on color...

So I didn’t swoon over this comment; I guess I should have, but I didn’t believe him at that moment...but I respected it and hope he was telling the truth because more people need to try this "thing" called being conscious of what the world currently is and what we want to make our world tomorrow.

Take a look at Alicia Key’s song/Video “Unthinkable,” it makes you think...
